Beijing will host the 29th Olympic Games and the 13th Paralympic Games in August and September 2008 respectively. In view of the enthusiasm and aspiration of various sectors in Hong Kong to be an active participant in the first ever Games held in the nation, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSARG) has been entrusted by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) to hold the Equestrian Events of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
On 05 October 2005, BOCOG and HKSARG formed The Equestrian Committee (Hong Kong) of BOCOG (i.e. the Equestrian Committee), with the Chief Secretary for Administration as president,
to plan and host the Equestrian Events of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games .
The Equestrian Committee set up its executive arm in the form of a company, the Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited (i.e. the Equestrian Company), to organize and host the Equestrian Events. The Hong Kong Jockey Club is responsible for funding the design, construction and maintenance of the two competition venues in Hong Kong.
