A picture of a dining place in Hong Kong
With more than 9,000 restaurants, Hong Kong is truly a gourmet's paradise . From dégustation menus at world-class restaurants to exotic local delicacies, everything is within easy reach.

Hong Kong
Hong Kong teahouses, known as cha chaan teng , offer a wide range of affordable snack food such as noodles, cakes, and desserts. Local favourites include yuen yeung ( a 50-50 mixture of tea and coffee), boh lo yau (a crumbly sweet bun stuffed with melted butter), and daan tart ( a baked egg custard in a flaky crust).
Chinese
Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong usually specialise in the cuisine of a particular region. Cantonese is by far the most popular choice, as most people hail from this part of Southern China. Other regional cuisines come from areas such as Chiu Chow, Hunan, Szechuan, Beijing or Shanghai. Chinese vegetarian food also has excellent quality. A traditional dim sum breakfast is highly recommended.
Asian
The exotic tastes of Asia can be found in authentic restaurants across Hong Kong. Spicy Thai soups, hearty Indian curries, mouth-watering Korean barbeque, refreshing Vietnamese salad rolls and unforgettable Japanese sushi are just some of the endless taste sensations available.
Halal
Muslim travelers will have no problem finding Halal food in Hong Kong. There are Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean, and American restaurants catering to Muslim diners. More details can be found here.
Western
French, Italian and German fare is widespread, along with Greek, Mexican as well as modern Australian and Californian. From American-style family diners to Spanish tapas bars, and the usual assortment of fast-food outlets, eating options exist for every budget and occasion.
High Tea
Visitors can step back into Hong Kong's colonial past over a pot of fine English tea, a few cucumber sandwiches, a piece of Windsor cake and some toasty scones with Devonshire cream and jam. Many prestigious hotels still honor this much-loved British tradition.
